about the founder

Osunlewa Records is a Maryland-based

Limited Liability Company (LLC) owned and operated by Jaylin “Ifalade Osunlewa Adeola” Ward.

Hey!

I’m Jaylin “Ifalade Osunlewa Adeola” Ward, and I use they and she pronouns. I am a queer Afro-Latine Osun priest in the Isese Lagba tradition, digital storyteller, producer, and singer. I’m from Co-op City in The Bronx, New York and I currently live in Silver Spring, Maryland.

During undergrad at Howard University, I became a community organizer and urban grower serving the Howard-Shaw neighborhood at the Halo G.R.E.E.N. Garden. This work led me to nonprofit social movements, where I co-founded Generation Green and developed environmental liberation theory. I also co-founded mĀk collective, an art collective and digital media platform for young and Black queer artists.

I am one of the first graduates of the Interdisciplinary Journalism program at Howard University, and my thesis report on Afro-Antillean Panamanian experiences during Operation Just Cause is published with the Pulitzer Center. I am called to building narratives as a digital storyteller with Black-led anti-capitalist communities of practice, and I am currently stationed in the solidarity economy movement.

This work required me to start Osunlewa Records, LLC to answer the expanding calls for consulting, research, editing, and musical production services grounded in liberation movement praxis.

In Solidarity.

consulting

from doubt to dignity

đź‘€

A common complaint with consultancies is that they drag you through a long process to identify the problem but do not guide you through implementing the solution.

✨

🎉

Osunlewa Records is not a consultancy. This service is a need-responsive offering to mission-driven people seeking a capacity-building partner. I do not take more than one contract at a time, and solution implementation uses sociocratic principles and anti-harm facilitation practices.

🤲🏾

My approach to consulting is thought partnership, rejecting rigidity, and redirecting false urgency.

đź“Ą

Each consultation includes orientation, tailored assessments, project design, coaching sessions, role development, and more.

research

My research centers elders and survivors of state-sanctioned violence as memory keepers that can inform and lead solutions for economies that place people over profit.

music

Publishing under the name LAD3 (pronounced Ladè), she creates a fusion of ambient, electronic, and R&B music. She started making music in 2022 on GarageBand, which she learned how to use in a middle school music class. Inspired by her older sister's music catalog that jumped from EDM to MySpace hip-hop, she pulled from the sounds she grew up listening to and began producing. They pray for their sonics to reach the ears of folks longing for deep reflection, intimacy, or a party.

gon3

an omi blue review

Like many musicians born of the digital age, LAD3’s first experimentations with music started with garage band formulations influenced by the techno drumbeats that populated the 2010s, citing influences such as Skrillex and genres jungle, intelligent dance music, and ambient. Since platforming their music on popular streaming services like SoundCloud and Spotify, they’ve developed a distinguishable sound by pairing heady supersonic synths with breathy and intimate vocals. GON3, a siren’s song about heartbreak, is nostalgic and emotional. The synth-y composition is heavy in its evocation of the angst and tumult of navigating romance and betrayal in your 20s. The spaciousness of GON3’s vocals paired with lyrical repetition, make the song hauntingly beautiful. This in comparison with their previously released OP3N, a moody exploration of desire, choice and vulnerability while maintaining the musician’s playful cheekiness. In OP3N, the layered vocals and hypnotic production give rise to the universal erotic tension of budding romance heard in the lyric, “I wanna open you up to my pain…”. Clear in their musical catalog is the skill of captivating an audience through their musical storytelling and fun-loving, risqué persona. LAD3 is complex and complicated and more than willing to take us there. Allowing themselves to be many things, they continue to push the limits of the artistry in their sound.
